the only problem is we don't respond to eachother at the same time

The Userplane chat is wii compatable, you just have to type the person you want to talk to in brackets if you're on the wii, it won't let you send a message to everyone.

You don't need a Userplane ID to login.

If you're both on a computer, you should be in the xat.
